Yesterday - Nick, Amy (in the trees), and Harper (not pictured) holding the bulls we sorted to sell.

Monday and Tuesday were spent inventorying and moving animals around, like pawns on a chess board, stategically placing animals that will be shipped in the next weeks closer to home.  The entire crew trotted out of headquarters around 6:30am and headed south, approx. 12mi to the southern border of the ranch.  We split in two groups attacking different directions, pastures were gathered and bred cows sorted for selling.  This continued through muliple pastures as we moved north.

This morning the bulls we culled are being shipped and preparations for more riding and sorting Thursday and Friday are being made.

Duke IV and Cooper

Found this picture the other day off and old cell phone and it made me laugh.  This nice ol' Beefmaster just didn't want to go into the race way.  I guess she was enjoying Duke and Cooper's company too much!  Cooper started by petting her and whispering sweet nothings in her ear... Still no budge.  Then he told a bad joke or two and got nothing in return.  A few seconds later I hear young Duke laughing and turn around to find this.   And she still wasn't moving! Ha

These two guys are currently in Australia mustering cattle together on million acre stations that have single pastures bigger than the entire Chico!  I know they are representing America and the Chico Republic just real nice!

A young bull elk I spotted in the trees on the north end of our alfalfa field.  He wasn't too spooked when I climbed thru the fence and approached to within 30 or so yards! After I snapped this pic I took one step closer and he started to walk, so I backed off and he stopped, just watching me and wondering why I woke him up from his nap.  Not sure why he is here but I hope he sticks around!

I caught this turtle this morning, spun him around and snapped this shot.  Yes I know....it's not a super fast baby lizzard....but it still took skill!

This moring we met at 4:30am to head East and move Nick's herd one pasture over.  Things went smooth and we were back in record time.  Joining us was one of our guests from the UK, Edward, in the picture above with Nick.  He did well so I offered him the job, but I don't think he took me seriously!

My favorite lake on the ranch, The Rose, taken this evening.

Sun hiding behind the clouds with Pikes Peak in the background.  Prime fishing now... ducks will be here before we know it!

Alan sorting.

This morning we gathered the commercal herd in the Mud Puppy and moved them one pasture over to the North.  There we held herd at a water tank and sorted dry cows from the pairs.  Michael and crew drove the sort 12mi back to Head Quarters.

Pikes Peak in the background.  I heard a rumor that the spring wind stopped when all of the snow was gone from the peak.... that wasn't the case today.

Oak Dog catchin' some air...

Today was hot, low 90's in the shade.  We spent the morning branding the calves from our first term heifers in the Holmes pasture.  It was fun.  The entire Moon famliy came out, Stuart had an uncle and friend visiting, and Kirsten enjoyed her first day back on the Chico after being gone for 6 or 8 months, or so.

My dog oakley will do back flips if you mention the word "swimming" to her.  With the hot weather and being cooped up in my front porch for most of the day, I gave her a break from the puppies and took her to HDQ Lake where she showed off her no fear style.
